Photographing the Synchrotron
Photographing this remarkable device was a rare and fleeting opportunity. The undulator had just arrived in Australia and was about to be installed on the Nanoprobe beamline. Once attached, the chamber would be sealed, placed under vacuum, and cooled to -123°C (-190°F)—a process that ensures it remains untouched and inaccessible for decades to come.

Laparoscopic Lenses
To capture this image within such a confined space, I used a variety of probe lenses, primarily a Storz laparoscope from Germany. The lens was meticulously cleaned before being carefully inserted through a tiny gap. Throughout the shoot, the entire undulator was kept under positive pressure to prevent even the smallest dust particles from entering—a contamination that could be disastrous.
